Filemail Desktop Is One of the Best Ways to Send a Large File Over the Internetįilemail Desktop is a great program and this is probably the best way to send a large file over the Internet. This is not the case when you use the program, so if you have a problem with the website, we suggest you use the program. Namely, when you try to download a file larger than 2 GB through a website, the download is often interrupted and the connection is unstable, so it is almost impossible to download the file. One note we have to make is that there is currently a bug on the website. If you need to send large files frequently, this is the perfect program for you, while everyone else is advised to use the website because these benefits probably won’t mean much to them. The main advantages that the program offers compared to the website are that sending files is significantly faster, when sending a file it is possible to pause sending, as well as the possibility of integration with Outlook. For this, all you need to do is click on the Download button, which is in the menu on the left, and enter the link that you received from the person who sent you the file. There is also an option to just upload the file to the Cloud service, add a description and get a link that you can then send to the person you are sending the file.Īnother option that the program offers is the ability to download files that someone has sent you using this service. The file is stored in the Cloud for 7 days, after which it is deleted and no longer available for download. The program works by saving the file you send in the Cloud, and the person you send the file to receives an email with a link from where they can download the file. This form contains five fields in which you should enter the email of one or more people to whom you are sending the file, your personal email address, the subject of the email, and the message that will be in the email, as well as a field for adding the file you are sending. The largest part of the interface is occupied by a form for sending files that resemble a standard email form. The user interface is nice and clean, and if you’ve ever used the Filemail website, you’ll notice that the program looks overwhelmingly like a website. We especially liked the fact that you don’t need to create an account or be logged in to use the program, although there is an option for this. When you install Filemail Desktop, the first thing you need to do is restart your computer, after which the program is ready to use. Filemail Desktop is a program made by the company behind the Filemail website. With Filemail, you can send files up to 5 GB in size. The reason why these services are used for this, and not email, is the fact that standard email services, such as Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook, have limits on the maximum size of attachments you can send, which is generally between 20 and 25 MB. We have already written about the Filemail service and in those posts we explained how this service is used through the website and the Android application:įilemail is a free online service for sending large files. In this review, we will focus on the Windows version, but everything we say will more or less apply to all other versions of the program. UI is not great in web and desktop client, but is still decent.Filemail Desktop is a free program for sending large files over the Internet, available for Windows 7, 8, 10, 11, macOS, Android, and iOS. cannot login from more than 1 Windows desktop clients (once someone logs in from another computer, except for via website, instances in other computers are automatically disconnected). no local servers around Israel (which means downloads are sometimes very slow) good storage management features (search/filter etc) decent and flexible pricing (price is set in 1 TB increments, which means you can add or remove storage at will) ability to control/edit all sent items (add/delete files, change expiry date etc) a decent Windows desktop app with (optional) auto-download feature (this to me is the most important feature) After a careful market research, we found its features meet most of our needs, incomparable to similarly priced services. We tend to use other services (WeTransfer/Google Drive) for smaller packages or ones that don't really require authentication, but for most uses FileMail is our best option. Comments: We use this service on an almost daily basis for various needs involving external parties (festivals, post houses, distributors etc), often times for 100-200 GB sized.
